Child Wellbeing and Safety Obligations For All Fencing Clubs & Coaches

Compliance with the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (VIC) and the Working with Children Act 2005 (Vic)

Irrespective of participation in the Fencing Victoria Star Club system, all fencing clubs are reminded that Child Safe Standards apply to all sporting organisations that operate and provide sporting services to children within Victoria. This includes complying with the Working with Children Act where club members are involved in child related work. Please Note that new legislation was introduced in 2017 and ensure that you comply with the legislation
“As of the 1st August 2017, the Working with Children Act will Change. ‘Working with Children’ will include anyone who has oral, written or electronic communication with children, as well as face-toface or physical contact, with children. Further details can be found at workingwithchidren.vic.gov.au under the heading of ‘Changes to Legislation.”

From January 2020 all Affiliated Clubs must nominate a Member Protection Officer, who has completed the online portion of the ‘Play by the Rules, Member Protection Information Officer
Course’ on their Affiliation Questionnaire – https://www.playbytherules.net.au/online-courses

All Affiliated Coaches and Coaches operating in Affiliated Fencing Victoria Clubs must have a current Working With Children Check Card – Clubs are responsible for ensuring that all their Coaches possess this current card. Evidence of this current card must be produced upon the request of Fencing Victoria Executive, Administration or relevant authority.
