Fencing Victoria will be running a free Referee’s Course on 6 September 2026. This will be held at the State Fencing Centre, and will be run by our Head Referee, Liam Jarvis.

All participants will complete the General Refereeing Principles and Epee sections, with the Foil and Sabre sections optional to be completed after the lunch break.

Following completion of the Referee’s Course, members will be required to complete a written assessment to demonstrate capability as a referee. Once this is successfully completed, they will be eligible further to be assessed in their practical capacity on a competition day. Once this is also successfully completed, members will be eligible to attend competitions as a referee, and be paid to do so.

In order to referee and be paid, members must be over the age of 15. However, the Referee’s Course is open to all members over 13 years’ old.

Timetable

9:30 AM – 11:30 AM – General Refereeing Principles

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Epee Refereeing (all participants to complete)

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM – Lunch Break

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM – Foil Refereeing (optional)

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM – Sabre Refereeing (optional)
