In January 2011, the Weapons Control Act (Vic) 1990 was amended. The amendments changed how weapons are regulated in Victoria.
In summary, fencing weapons may be used by affiliated members of Fencing Victoria (and equivalently qualified overseas and interstate fencers). Also allowed is the use of fencing weapons while under the direct supervision of a qualified fencing coach. This means that unaffiliated members acting without supervision in a club are in breach of the Act.
The Act prohibits the sale of weapons, including fencing weapons, to people under 18.
