THOMAS DELLER WINS AUSTRALIAN YOUTH CIRCUIT BOYS’ EPEE COMPETITION

MEDIA RELEASE

7 December 2023

NORTH MELBOURNE – NSW fencer Thomas Deller won Tuesday’s Australian Youth Circuit boys’ epee competition, as part of the 2023 Australian and Oceania Senior, Veteran, and Australian Youth Circuit Fencing Championships.

“[The final bout] was very challenging for me. because I’ve fenced Sora [Robinson] a lot of times before, but I’ve been thinking about the previous bouts a lot and I finally managed to figure out how to counter what he does,” he said. “It’s very important to learn from previous bouts.”

He’s been fencing for about five and a half years now, starting when he was 10; although in the past he’s fenced three times per week, he’s currently training six times per week. When asked what he would say to up-and-coming fencers, he said, “It’s definitely better than soccer. Very fun if you enjoy something physical, but that also involves a lot of thinking.”

He has plans for his fencing. “I’ll try to do as many international comps as I can. I’ll hopefully make cadet Asian and cadet Commonwealth competitions.”
