Coach Accreditation Pathway
A state run coaching course and coach affiliation are requirements for national level 1 accreditation. The full list of national accreditation requirements are detailed on the AFF website.
About our coaching courses
Who is Eligible?
Any fencer with 2+ years of experience is eligible to register for a coaching course. You must have a valid Fencing Victoria membership to register.
When are courses scheduled?
Fencing Victoria offers two options each year. There is an intensive course that runs for 5 consecutive days at the beginning of each year, or there is a long form course with 5 sessions spread out over several months.
Where are the sessions held?
The course sessions are held at the State Fencing Centre. For a map and transportation options please see our SFC information page.
How Do I sign up?
Registrations are available via our member portal. If no course registration is available, please email operations@fencingvictoria.org
Practical Course Components
5 In Person sessions
The sessions cover fencing theory and technique, how to give 1:1 lessons and how to give group lessons.
Sessions are run by our coaching course director Neil Hick.
Practical Assessment
At the end of the 5 sessions, each trainee performs a practical assessment in front of a panel of coaches.
There are assessment opportunities at the conclusion of both the intensive course, and the long form course.
Supervised practise
30 hours of supervised coaching must be logged and signed off on by a registered accredited coach.
10 of these hours can be completed before the course, 20 hours must be completed after completing the course.
